Giant Beetle

Giant BeetleOrder Coleoptera – Family Scarabaeidae

Why do you suppose this is called the Giant Beetle? Put you hand over it to get an idea how big it is. Despite its scary-looking horns, this beetle would not hurt you…in fact, it might feel kind of cool walking across your hand and up your arm….

1.    Draw the front beetle wings (elytra) and thorax.

2.    Add the head and ferocious looking horns.

3.    Draw the front legs.

4.    Add the middle and hind legs.

5.    Add the club-like antennae on either side of the center horn. Shade the beetle, leaving very light areas to make it look shiny. Go over lines with a sharp pencil. Use a dull pencil to add shading and a cast shadow.
